UK approves infrastructure upgrade

The UK government has given more than 50 rail and road projects the green light. Funded with GBP 92.8 billion of the spending review settlement, the measures include five major rail projects and five strategic road upgrades in England. These improvements aim to support 42,000 jobs and 39,000 new homes, cut congestion, improve journey times and enhance regional connectivity.

According to a press releas by the UK government, highlights include the A66 trans-Pennine upgrade and a Midlands rail hub. The projects also include local road improvements and digital rail signalling on key routes. "Improving transport connectivity is key to unlocking the productivity gains needed to deliver sustainable growth in the country," said John Foster, chief policy and campaigns officer at the CBI.
