UK partners to launch world’s first zero-emission cargo flights

UK-based operator RVL Aviation has signed an agreement with ZeroAvia to operate the first hydrogen-electric cargo flights using ZA600-powered Cessna Grand Caravans. Flights are expected to begin once certification is complete, marking the first commercial deployment of ZeroAvia’s emission-free propulsion system.

The ZA600 uses hydrogen fuel cells to power electric motors, with water as the only emission. "This is a crucial step towards decarbonising aviation," said RVL CEO Dave Connor. The service will target domestic UK routes and could be expanded based on initial success.

ZeroAvia estimates that nearly 1,000 global cargo aircraft could be future candidates for its powertrain technology, which offers up to 90% climate impact reduction and lower operating costs. The project is supported by lessor Monte and aligns with RVL’s broader sustainability goals. (ah)
