Ulaanbaatar Railways raises capacity by 20%


Mongolia-based Ulaanbaatar Railways is to become part of the Russia-Mongolia-China corridor. Work done by the railway in 2017 led to just under a threefold increase in transit shipments of containers through Mongolia.

source site In order to handle growing volumes, plans are in place to implement numerous measures to develop the railways' infrastructure up to 2030. Compared to 2017, double the number of tracks will be overhauled, and the modernisation of the transport management system will be completed. As a result, the rail service provider's carrying capacity will be increased by 20%.

 

Ulaanbaatar Railways plays a key role in Mongolia’s transport connections. Rail transport accounts for over 60% of the country's freight traffic. (ben)
