US manufacturer opens engineering lab in India
Wabtec has inaugurated its largest engineering lab in Bengaluru (India) to enable rail component design and performance. This engineering lab has a 2,790 sqm test lab area and 1,580 sqm for an operations centre and office space.
The facility houses more than 30 complex mechanical, electrical and propulsion related custom built test rigs. Some of the test equipment, such as the resonance type 1500 KN fatigue rig, are unique in India, the company said.
Wabtec is one of the largest rail equipment manufacturers in the country. With two large business entities in freight and transit rail, the company has supplied more than 300 locomotives to Indian Railways to date. (ben)
