War-torn Ukraine to receive confiscated cars

Latvia has launched a special transport project - the government in Riga is having cars that have been confiscated transferred to Ukraine. The cars were seized because the drivers drove in a drunken state with over 1.5 per mille.

About 200 cars were confiscated in the last two months alone. Seven of them were transported to Ukraine a few days ago. They will be given to Ukrainian army units and hospitals free of charge and should help alleviate the hardship of Ukrainians caused by Putin's war.

Every week from now on, two dozen confiscated cars will be sent to Ukraine. Drunken driving is a big problem in Latvia and the cause of many accidents. (ben)
