Wooden logistics giant emerging
Garbe Industrial and Logicenters by Nrep have topped out what according to them will be Europe’s largest logistics facility built from timber. The joint venture partners are investing around EUR 31 million in the 27,000 sqm complex in the port of Straubing-Sand, due for completion in Q4/2025.
The structure’s hall, mezzanines and façade will be made from PEFC-certified spruce, pine and Douglas fir, cutting the CO₂ footprint by 66% compared with concrete according to the partners. Features include 26 dock levellers, green roofing, PV-ready areas and heat pumps. The site offers trimodal access to road, rail and waterway, and can be leased in units from 7,600 sqm. Talks with potential tenants are ongoing, as the companies reported. (js)
