WW to run Gothenburg car terminal

The port of Gothenburg has signed an agreement with Wallenius Wilhelmsen to operate the former’s car terminal from February 2026 onwards.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen is set to make major investments in the 24 ha facility in the coming years, to enhance capacity, infrastructure and sustainability. The new operator also plans to introduce zero-emission cargo-handling equipment and expand beyond cars to include heavy equipment, project cargo and breakbulk consignments amongst the types of cargo handled.

The initiative is in line with the port’s ‘Master Plan 2030’, which aims for net-zero emissions. The port will also invest in onshore power and quay upgrades, to accommodate two deepsea vessels simultaneously.

Port CEO Göran Eriksson highlighted Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s strong business plan and customer-oriented strategy. Gothenburg, Scandinavia’s largest port, handles 20% of Sweden’s trade and more than half the country’s container traffic, offering more than 30 climate-neutral rail links daily.
