Looking ahead to the 'new normal'
2020 has been a tough year for everyone. Life has changed dramatically because of COVID-19 and none more so than the retail sector.
Social distancing has forced years of digital commerce transformation into just a few months. All retailers have had to rapidly overhaul their supply chain models to take into account increased demand whilst operating a reduced workforce.
A recent report by CBI found that 58% of retailers surveyed in May reported shortages of some goods, 44% reported they were experiencing shipping delays and 60% reported capacity constraints.
This year will be a defining year for technology and the retail industry’s ability to evolve. It will be essential retailers invest in the new technologies that dramatically improve visibility across the end-to-end supply chain so they are ready to deal with the unexpected, whether it's COVID-19, trade war, act of war or Brexit.
