20,000 trucks less on Brenner axis

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is now running a new nonstop night train between the terminal in Sommacampagna-Sona near Verona (Italy) and the trailer port in Regensburg (Germany) operated by Bayernhafen.

To begin with, the intermodal connection will offer three round trips per week, which will be doubled to six weekly round trips by the end of 2021.

The new TransFER link will enable a further shift of traffic to rail along the Brenner axis, thus taking 10,000 truck journeys off Austrian roads per year. With the frequency increase in 2022, this may even be 20,000 truck journeys. (ben)
