2,440 m of new rail tracks open for traffic

South Carolina Ports, USA, has celebrated the completion of the first phase of its USD 30 million rail expansion project at Inland Port Greer. It involved building an additional rail processing track and two rail storage tracks within the terminal. The addition of 2,440 m of new track will meet cargo demands through 2040.

The next phase of expansion involves extending the container yard by more than 60,000 sqm to handle 50% more cargo. The project will also double the size of the existing chassis yard capacity and build new facilities for heavy lift maintenance and terminal operations.

The hub handled more than 150,000 rail lifts in 2022, which means that 150,000 containers were moved on or off Norfolk Southern trains. (ben)
