Additional capacity for port railway

It is one of the largest infrastructure projects for Germany’s Port of Hamburg of recent years: improving access links to the Burchardkai. The final phase, the construction of the rail track to the Mühlenwerder section of the railway station, has now been completed, thus finishing off the last of the four sub-projects.

With this extensive upgrade, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has renewed and redesigned the road and rail connections to the Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB), giving the facility a second siding.

This provides the necessary capacity to increase traffic volumes in Mühlenwerder by 40% to 50%; in other words, to add at least another 75 daily trips between the CTB and Eurokombi terminals. (ben)
