Adelaide-Tarcoola upgrade gaining speed
The first 10,000 t of rail track has been delivered to outback South Australian locations in preparation for constructing the crucial east-west Adelaide - Tarcoola Rail upgrade acceleration project. The multi-million dollar upgrade will allow the 720 km stretch of rail to handle heavier and faster trains.
Over the last months, 18 train loads of rail have been sent both north and south of Port Augusta where the rails were unloaded and stored between the tracks. The next stage of the works will see these rails connected to make longer lengths using a field flash butt welder, before the new rails are laid. (ben)
