Airline brings honeybees to Ras Al Khaimah

40 tonnes of live honeybees landed recently at Ras Al Khaimah airport (RAK) in the UAE on an Egypt Air Cargo flight from Cairo for the first time in 2019. Many customers of Al Najeh Honey and Bee from Sharjah (UAE) were waiting to welcome the bees and take them to various farms across the emirates.

The company started as a small trading business 26 years ago and has since become a key exporter of queen bees and apiary equipment between Egypt, the UAE, Oman, Sudan and Saudi Arabia (see ITJ 47-48/2016, p. 36).

RAK CEO Sanjay Khanna: “A lot of planning has gone into this to achieve the final goal of handling and delivering live bees. We endeavour to establish benchmark standards in our airport, which is well suited to handle such delicate and time-sensitive cargo.” (ah)
