Amber railfreight corridor now in operation

The Amber railfreight corridor (AFC) has become operational, and prearranged trains paths are now available. The corridor is designed to facilitate the operation of competitive cross-border rail services between the port of Koper (Slovenia) and important industrial centres and intermodal terminals in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.

The AFC is also intended to provide efficient links to Euro-Asian railway routes from Malaszewice on the Poland/Belarus border and towards Serbia and Southeastern Europe via the Hungarian border station Kelebia.

AFC no.11 is the EU’s first new railfreight artery to be established since an initial nine routes were defined in 2010. (ben)
