APMT Lazaro Cardenas is operational
The new APMT terminal (TEC 2) at the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas has started operations. The first vessel to call was the 9,600 teu “Maersk Salalah”, which is deployed on the Danish line’s AC2 transpacific loop.
APMT invested some USD 900 million in TEC 2; it will finally add 1.2 million teu in annual capacity to Mexico’s port infrastructure. The semi-automated terminal has a 750 m quay, a depth of 16.5 m and intermodal connections to five rail tracks.
The final phase of the terminal build-out, slated for 2027 at the earliest, will deepen the terminal basin to 18 m and an overall area of 102 ha. (kd)
