Argentina nationalises railways

Argentina’s railways that were privatised in the 1990s, have been nationalized again. The upper chamber of the National Congress of Argentina said “yes” to the law to create the state-owned railway company Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado (FASdE) on 15 April 2015. The motion was passed by an overwhelming majority. The country’s government will therefore shoulder responsibility for the operation and maintenance of all passenger and freight railway lines. The FASdE will also be in charge of developing the railway infrastructure as well as renewing and modernising the rolling stock. (ku) www.trenesargentinos.gob.ar
