Asian shipping community to raise its voice

Asia's shipping community is in "need for a unified Asian voice", as Esben Poulsson, honorary secretary of the Singapore Shipping Association emphasised to delegates at the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) conference this week. Poulsson said it was essential that the views of Asian shipowners are heard loud and clear in the area of shipping regulation, especially on the many current issues such as piracy and armed robbery, the ballast water convention, greenhouse gas emissions, etc.

Speaking on "The Fast And Furious Pace Of Change In Asia", Poulsson informed conference attendees that the projected growth for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is 5.2% this year and 5.6% in 2015, and that an essential element of this growth rate is Asean's economic integration.
