Belarusian Railway to implement digital technologies
Belarusian Railway, in cooperation with the railway administrations of Latvia and Russia, has started to use digital transit documents for privately-owned empty railway cars moving between the three countries.
Digital SMGS consignment notes will be used instead of hardcopy documents. A 1,520 mm gauge railway connecting Russia, Belarus and the Kaliningrad Oblast (Russia) was the first to start using digital transit documents in December 2016.
Belarusian Railway stressed that the introduction of digital paperless technologies for freight transport is a priority in the company's development. (ben)
