Bergamo receives cargo boost before Christmas
Milan Bergamo airport (BGY) is set to see a healthy increase in cargo operations in the run-up to Christmas. Giacomo Cattaneo, the Italian airport's director of commercial aviation, explained: "During the period before Christmas we expect 4.3% more weekly freighter movements than in a usual week this winter."
Last year BGY registered 8,145 freighter movements - an average of 22 per day, and handled 125,948 t of cargo, accounting for 10% of all airfreight in Italy.
While movements are up, it should also be noted that carriers started operating larger freighters into the airport in recent weeks to accommodate growth. Aircraft such as the A330F have been making more regular appearances. (ah)
