Big batch of locomotives for US railroad
The US class 1 railroad, Kansas City Southern (KCS), is purchasing 50 new locomotives and digital solutions from GE Transportation, to drive improved operational and fuel efficiency.
Given improvements in the North American rail market, a 5% increase in freight volume in 2017, and more growth predicted for 2018, the advanced locomotives will help KCS cope with higher tonnage and drive operational efficiencies across the railway's network.
The order includes GE’s tier 4 Evolution series locomotives, which will be produced in Fort Worth TX. The first units are due for delivery in early 2019. (ben)
