Big blockchain bunch of liners and terminal operators
Blockchain technology is having wide repercussions. Nine major ocean carriers and terminal operators recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) about the formation of a consortium to develop a global shipping business network (GSBN), an open digital platform based on distributed ledger technology.
MoU participants include ocean carriers CMA CGM, Cosco, Evergreen, OOCL and Yang Ming, as well as the terminal operators DP World, Hutchison Ports, PSA and Shanghai International Port. The technology provider is the software solutions provider Cargo Smart.
The new GSBN platform will establish a digital baseline that aims to connect all stakeholders, including carriers, terminal operators, customs agencies, shippers, and logistics service providers to enable collaborative innovation and digital transformation in the supply chain. (kd)
