Big brownfield project in Hunterston

Peel ports has revealed its plans for the major port and industrial centre at Hunterston, a development site in North Ayrshire, Scotland (UK) that comprises a brownfield of more than 1,000 square kilometres, deepwater, and rail connections. About GBP 140 million will be invested.

The company has published its vision for developing the site over the next twenty years in a master plan that is now open to public consultation. In recent years, the government has changed its preferred energy policy from fossil fuels towards renewable resources.

The result is that Hunterston Port’s role as a major importer of coal for Scottish power stations is now obsolete. The consultation for the new master plan closes on 28 June 2019. (kd)
