Big contract for AV Dawson

The freight logistician AV Dawson has won a contract from British Gypsum, a UK plaster and plasterboard products leader, to import materials through its site in Middlesbrough. The long-term contract takes advantage of AV Dawson's multimodal logistics offer. Products arrive by ship at AV Dawson’s berth, are unload and stored before being loaded into trains for daily deliveries to the East Midlands.

The new agreement will entail the creation of ten new jobs at AV Dawson and the investment of more than GBP 2 million in facilities and plant equipment. A new GBP 1 million purpose-built canopy at the firm’s site will be used to store the products.

A direct rail link will enter the canopy, enabling the firm to keep the products dry as it loads them directly onto trains, without adverse weather conditions hampering operations. This will reduce the energy required to remove moisture from the products when they arrive at the factory. (mw)
