Big order for Boeing's new freighter programme

Qatar Airways will be the 777-8 freighter launch customer with a firm order for 34 jets and options for 16 more, the largest freighter commitment in Boeing history by value (+USD 20 billion at current list prices).

Boeing will build the type in its Everett, WA factory, where it has invested over USD 1 billion. First delivery of the new aircraft, which will be the industry's largest and longest-range (8,167 km) twin-engine freighter with payload capacity (118 t) nearly identical to the B747-400F and a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency, emissions and operating costs, is anticipated for 2027.

Qatar Airways will convert 20 of its 60 777X family orders to the 777-8 freighter. The carrier is also ordering two current B777F and signed a MoU for a firm order of 25 737-10 aircraft and purchase rights for 25 additional airplanes. (ah)
