Biggest location for DHL in Germany

Deutsche Post DHL is investing a low three-digit million euro sum into the expansion of its parcel centre in Aschheim (Germany).

The new warehouse is being built adjacent to the existing facility. By connecting the two locations via a tunnel for trucks, the company will create the largest parcel location in the country. From 2022, it will be able to sort up to 72,000 parcels per hour.

Built on a 67,000 smq site, the hub will be equipped with a photovoltaic system on the roof and will be supplied via climate-friendly district heating, largely from geothermal energy.

The largest DHL parcel centres in Obertshausen near Frankfurt and in Bochum can each sort a maximum of 50,000 items per hour. Deutsche Post DHL Group currently operates 36 parcel centres in Germany. (sh)
