Biogas to serve the West Indies

Biogas is the secret weapon. CMA CGM is planning to build and launch seven new container vessels powered by biogas. They will be deployed on services to the French West Indies.

Delivered gradually as of 2024, the seven new container ships – four 7,300 teu vessels and three 7,900 teu vessels, each with almost 1,400 reefer plugs – will serve Guadeloupe and Martinique, which will also increase the capacity serving the two islands.

Facilities of the biggest shipping ports in Guadeloupe and Martinique, as well as wharfs, will also be shaped and extended, accordingly. Fort de France and Pointe à Pitre, serving as hubs of the Caribbean and South America, will be the starting point for transhipments to Guyana, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy and northeast Brazil.
