Box monitoring system installed at Tilburg terminal
The port of Rotterdam is starting a test project with the Tilburg barge terminal in the Netherlands, and investing in a solution from Certus Port Automation, a container identification and monitoring systems manufacturer.
All trucks that arrive at, or depart from the inland container terminal in Tilburg in Q3/2018, will pass through a newly developed scanning portal that registers vehicle registration numbers and container numbers.
The scanner also provides images so that the container status on arrival and at departure from the terminal can be examined. Comparable identification and monitoring systems have been commonplace for some time at the deep sea container terminals in the port of Rotterdam. A low-threshold version of this is now the first to be tested at the Vossenberg site at the Tilburg barge terminal.
The Rotterdam port authority is financing the purchase costs of this scanning portal, and will charge the inland terminal a modest fee per scanned container. (kd)
