Bremen's Kaiserhafen accessible again

Access to the Kaiserhafen in Bremerhaven is free again. Two ships left the port in emergency operation without technical difficulties. The emergency operation ensures that the Kaiserhafen will continue to be available to shipping without significant restrictions.

The emergency operation had become necessary because a steel girder of the swing bridge to the Columbusinsel had cracked last Thursday, resulting in a total loss of the bridge.

Bremenports had been working around the clock since the bridge broke, including over the Easter holidays, to get the lock, which is currently shut down for ongoing upgrading work, back into service. (cd)
