Canadian rail corridor reopens after storm damage

The railway operator Canadian Pacific (CP) has reopened a railway line running between Kamloops and Vancouver in the province of British Columbia. Crews worked around the clock after a storm on 14 November in which almost 200 mm of rain fell in just two days in some places.

Thirty locations in CP’s Thompson and Cascade subdivisions were damaged, with 20 incidents of a significant loss of infrastructure. CP crews moved around 150,000 cbm of material to repair the railway infrastructure and rebuild the damaged areas, used more than 80 pieces of heavy equipment and mobilised hundreds of CP employees and contractors from across the network for the emergency work.
