Celebrating the birthday of the container
The Bavarian transport minister Joachim Herrmann celebrated the 60th anniversary of the ISO standard container at the 9th Innovative Logistics symposium, held on 4 May under the motto "60 years of success – the ISO standard container in intermodal transport". Today global trade relies on 38 million containers.
The event focused on new ways to develop standards that integrate both the road haulage sector's and railway enterprise's requirements. Containers enabled Germany to develop into the export nation it is today, as standardisation allows it to be used by every mode of transport.
