China’s new fast railway cuts freight transport times

Track laying has been completed for the entire new Harbin-Kiamusze railway, the longest fast railway in an extremely cold area of China. Construction began in 2014. The new rail link starts in Harbin, passes through, inter alia, Fangzheng and Yilan, before ending at Kiamusze, all in the Heilongjiang province in northeastern China. The line, with 14 stations in all, is 343 km long and designed so that passenger and freight trains can run at speeds of up to 200km/h. The new railway axes travel time from Harbin to Kiamusze from the current 7 hours to around 110 minutes. (ben)
