Chinese navy in Gulf of Aden
China's navy has escorted merchant ships on their voyage through the Gulf of Aden for the first time. The 14th and 15th escort task force of the Chinese navy accompanied three vessels from Hong Kong, Singapore and Somalia. This was the first time that the task force fulfilled a joint convoy mission. The operation took place in connection with a joint Chinese and US counter-piracy exercise in the Gulf of Aden over the past weekend (24-25 August).The two countries sent missile equipped destroyers, supply ships and ship-based helicopters and special task forces for the drill.
