CMA CMG buys OPDR
CMA CGM has announced its acquisition of the German company OPDR (Oldenburg-Portugiesische Dampfschiffs-Rhederei GmbH & Co. KG). OPDR is owned by the Bernhard Schulte Group, an expert in shortsea shipping and door-to-door logistics for North Europe, the Canary Islands, the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco. The company connects Europe, Scandinavia and North Africa.
Whilst the closing of this transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities, Farid T. Salem, the CMA CGM Group's executive officer, said the deal reinforces the group's presence in the growing intra-European shortsea transportation market. This is in line with its strategy to broaden its regional network, an approach which began with the acquisition of MacAndrews in 2002.
CMA CGM said it was planning on maintaining and developing OPDR, as well as creating new synergies with both MacAndrews and the CMA CGM Group.
In 2014, OPDR expects to carry more than 240,000 teu, and MacAndrews expects to carry more than 290,000 teu.
