Combining road and ship to shorten linehauls

Mainfreight continues to expand its portfolio of sustainable transport solutions. In addition to its intermodal offerings, the forwarder’s Belgium branch recently optimised its current road haulage routes by shortening linehauls.

Notably, the route from Ghent (Belgium) to the UK hub was shortened from a 250 km road through the tunnel to an 85 km route via shipping from Zeebrugge (Belgium) to Tilbury (UK). Similar adjustments in routes to Leeds (UK) deliver substantial kilometre savings.

These optimisations do not only save time for drivers but also increase the number of international drivers available. The haulier said that it can now serve a larger number of destinations more cost-effectively and provide more sustainable transport options in Europe. (ben)
