Container hotel for truck drivers
TST has opened its first micro-hotel for lorry drivers at its logistics site in Gimbsheim, Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany), in partnership with Roatel.
The facility, housed in a converted shipping container, offers four 7.5 sqm units equipped with a bed, WC, shower and satellite TV. The pilot project aims to support professional drivers by providing rest options directly on company premises.
Following a six-month trial, TST plans to extend the concept to additional locations, alongside the roll-out of charging parks for electric lorries through its subsidiary 'PamSun'. Roatel currently operates 29 container hotels in eleven German states, mainly near motorways. The initiative was driven by EU regulations requiring drivers to spend weekly rest periods outside their vehicles. (js)
