Container lines urge to keep focus on piracy
Container lines CMA CGM, MSC, Maersk Line and Hamburg Süd, which represent 40% of the world container shipping industry, recently discussed the piracy threat towards international shipping. The lines' meeting focused on piracy in the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean and West Africa. The companies said that although there had been a decline in activity over the past year, piracy continued to be a concern for the shipping industry. The latest incident happened at the end of April, when pirates kidnapped five crew from a container ship off Nigeria.
