CPKCR continues its H2 course

Power system manufacturer Ballard will deliver twelve 200 kW fuel cell engines to Canadian Pacific Kansas City Rail (CPKCR) in 2024. They will support the expansion of the railway’s new fleet of hydrogen-powered locomotives planned for regular switching and local freight service applications in Alberta, Canada.

To date, Ballard has supplied CPKCR with 50 fuel cell engines for use in its H2 locomotives, with a combined fuel cell power of 10 MW. The additional units are expected to enter service by the end of this year.

They will be partially funded through the emissions reduction Alberta (ERA) programme, which aims to help the province achieve its environmental and economic goals. (ben)
