Dakar to get logistics free zone
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed in Dakar by Dubai and the Senegalese government. Under terms of the pact, DP World will build and develop a logistics free zone (LFZ) in the vicinity of the new Blaise Diagne international airport in the outskirts of Senegal’s capital Dakar.
The investment is a new opportunity for DP World, which currently has an expanding portfolio of 65 terminals in operation worldwide. The new LFZ in Senegal will complement DP World’s Dakar terminal, which is West Africa’s largest and most modern container handling facility after a new platform was built there in November 2011, doubling capacity to over 600,000 teu.
As a gateway to Senegal’s and West Africa’s growing trade and business sectors, DP World Dakar created 200 jobs for local Senegalese people.
