Danish transport sector can and wants to reduce CO2

Denmark's road haulage sector can and wants to contribute to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. But it must take place through optimization -i.e. by obtaining the possibility to move more goods per litre of fuel. Taxes that restrict truck transport is a direct impediment to the economy and growth and will cost jobs, said Jacob Chr. Nielsen, managing director of Denmark's road freight association ITD after the government published its climate proposal. Nielsen added, "the initiative must make Denmark able to live up to the ambitious goal of reducing the country's total CO2 emission with 40% by 2020." (ben)
