Delft Hyperloop – a new transport mode?
Delft Technical University (Netherlands) has developed a capsule that is capable of transporting people and goods through a reduced-pressure tube system at speeds of up to 1,200 km/h.
A prototype of the Delft Hyperloop capsule has now been shipped to California by DHL. The prototype is to be tested for the first time in an actual hyperloop transport system in the US state. The design and construction of the capsule was undertaken for a special competition, which is entering the final stage at the end of January 2017.
The hyperloop should be a more energy efficient and more convenient form of transport compared to air and rail travel. (ben)
