Demand for immediate release of “MSC Aries”

The International Association of Ports and Harbours (Iaph) joined the International Chamber of Shipping in calling for the immediate release of the crew and the MSC-chartered vessel, “MSC Aries”, following its seizure in the Persian Gulf yesterday, 15.04.2024.

The “MSC Aries”, a container ship with a capacity of 14,300 teu, was intercepted after leaving Khalifa port in the UAE, en route to Nhava Shiva port in India.

Iaph's managing director Patrick Verhoeven expressed deep concern for the seafarers' welfare, highlighting the broader impact of such geopolitical conflicts on global maritime operations and port activities. He emphasised the importance of cooperation among ports worldwide to manage disruptions affecting global maritime transport, especially in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman regions. (pb)
