Digital transformation gathers speed

To speed up the digitalisation of the rail network, the German railway company Deutsche Bahn has founded the company Digitale Schiene Deutschland (Digital Rail for Germany, DSD). In cooperation with associations, railway companies and the train industry, DSD will pave the way for various measures to digitalise the railways.

In the years to come, the country’s rail network shall be equipped with ETCS and digital signalling technology. The new technologies are expected to boost capacities in the German rail network by up to 35%, enhance quality and punctuality, reduce maintenance costs and improve energy efficiency thanks to their state-of-the art and standardised equipment and their interoperability with other systems in Europe.
