Digitalisation in Central Asia goes ahead

The digitisation of transport services is proceeding apace in Central Asia, with successful eTIR pilots between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2020.

The International Road Union (IRU) is now working with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to facilitate trade with greater digitalisation along the Shymkent-Tashkent-Khudjand trade corridor, which connects Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

In partnership with IRU and with the support of the Tajik government, ADB organised a virtual workshop last week to share insights on how eTIR could be leveraged to drive transparent, secure and legal trade along the corridor. IRU called on countries in the region to deploy TIR digital tools to further simplify border crossing by establishing TIR green lanes along the corridor. (ben)
