Driver facility in Southampton to open this year

DP World in UK is leasing a 7,500 sqm site next to its Southampton container terminal to develop state-of-the art facilities for lorry drivers from Port of Southampton owner ABP.

The GBP 15 million (EUR 16.8 million) project will deliver driver welfare facilities – including a restaurant, showers, toilets and 24-hour security – and increase the size of the storage area used for containers moved by road and rail.

The new site was previously deployed for car storage and is expected to be fully operational this year. The driver facility is DP World’s latest investment in UK. A fourth berth at London Gateway is now under construction, which will lift capacity by a third when it opens in 2024. (ben)
