Dubai Customs has carried out its largest air cargo operation of 2025, seizing more than 35 t of counterfeit and smuggled goods during a three-month campaign. Inspectors intercepted 12 million smuggled cigarettes, 6.7 million counterfeit cigarettes, over 37,000 non-compliant cosmetics, 3,632 unauthorised electronic parts, and more than 10,500 fake branded items.

Director General Abdulla Busenad highlighted the use of advanced scanning technology, customs intelligence and skilled teams to protect health, safety and economic security. The operation reflects Dubai’s strategy to lead in secure customs while ensuring smooth trade flows. Authorities stressed cooperation with brand owners, who train inspectors in spotting fakes. Seized goods are recycled in partnership with rights holders, reducing environmental harm and reinforcing Dubai’s role as a trusted global trade hub. (ah)
