Emirates SkyCargo to suspend Basel freighter service
Emirates SkyCargo has followed in the tracks laid by Latam Cargo and AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) and is withdrawing services from Basel/Mulhouse Euroairport. The Russian full-freighter operator ABC proceeded to add a new Western European destination to its schedule last year, namely Liège (Belgium), and now the freight division of the Dubai-based airline, which established a liner service to and from Basel on 21 September 2014, has followed suit there too. It started regular services to and from Maastricht (Netherlands) recently (see also page 21 of ITJ 9-10/2018).
Emirates SkyCargo told the ITJ that it "can confirm that on 24 March 2018 we'll suspend our weekly freighter service to Basel. This decision was made as part of our routine operational review, to ensure that our freighter capacities continue to be deployed to best serve customer demand across our network. We remain committed to Switzerland and will continue to offer cargo capacities on our passenger flights to Geneva and Zurich."
Geneva and Zurich are each served twice daily by Emirates. Qatar Airways flies freighters to Basel four times a week and passenger units to Zurich eleven times a week and to Geneva seven times a week. (ah)
