European airports call for drone rulebook
Drone technology has rapidly emerged over the past five years, touching various aspects of air transport, not least airport operations. In the immediate future, the technology potentially has major implications on operational efficiency and safety, with ongoing projects in research and development proposing many other possible uses down the line.
Given the risks and opportunities presented by drones, ACI Europe, the European division of the international trade body Airports Council International, has now laid out the position of the airport industry. It embraces the technology and, at the same time, calls for the swift adoption of safety and traffic management rules on the use of drones at EU level. (ah)
