Extending UAE's rail network
Etihad Rail in the UAE has launched the construction works for package A of stage two of the pan-Emirates railway network that is being developed by the rail company. The corridor of package A will run for 139 km from Ghuweifat on the UAE border with Saudi Arabia to Ruwais in the west of the country, where it connects with stage one of the network.
After the launch, Etihad Rail signed a contract with the JV of Larson and Toubro and Power China International to construct freight facilities for the railway network. Once completed, these facilities will be an important service asset along the rail network that will connect the main ports to the UAE's principal centres of population and industry. (ben).
