First freight wagons on the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line
So far, cargo on the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway line (BTK) was transported only in containers. Now goods were transported in freight wagons for the first time. The firms Ady Express and AzRusTrans transported grain from Russia to Kars station (Turkey) in grain carriers (hoppers). Twelve wagons of grain were delivered to Akhalkalaki (Georgia), where the wheel systems (bogies) were changed and the cargo was sent to Kars.
The BTK railway, commissioned on 30 October 2017, covers a total length of 846 km. 504 km thereof pass through Azerbaijan, 263 km through Georgia and 79 km through Turkey. Today the line is the shortest route between Russia and Turkey. (ben)
