First Silk Road train arrives at port of Antwerp
The first ever Silk Road train exclusively destined for Antwerp (Belgium), arrived on 12 May. The freight train carrying 41 containers left the Chinese port of Tangshan on 26 April and travelled via Kazakhstan, Belarus, Poland and Germany to the port of Antwerp. The 11,000 km journey took 16 days.
The direct China - port of Antwerp service is an initiative of Tangshan city and Tangshan port, in collaboration with Cosco and Chinese Railways. The Chinese are now planning to run a regular direct train service to Antwerp once or twice per month. (ben)
